Nothing unites Americans like bloodlust.
Good old-fashioned, down-and-dirty in your face revenge sends us into freedom’s frenzy.
This mad motivation is enough to send mobs of white college kids into the streets with chants of “USA, USA., USA,” – mobs that would never converge on military recruiting offices or enlist en masse in the war on terrorism.
Old Glory becomes new glory.
And the worst might be yet to come.
Yesterday’s assassination of Osama bin Ladin unites us, said Barack Obama, the man who ordered the hit.
Really?
If so, at what cost?
Are we safer today than we were yesterday? Does America’s president sending out a shoot squad to whack America’s public enemy number one increase or decrease the risk to Americans at home and abroad?
Does the operation do more harm than good? Does Obama taking out Osama hurt us more than it helps us? Does the assassination make you feel good or bad? Are you afraid? Will Seal Team Six show up to save you if terrorists respond to the hit on their boss by attacking your local shopping mall, opening fire on tourists at the Lincoln Memorial or tossing a grenade into the eighth-grade class picture as dozens of unassuming kids pose on the steps of the U.S. Capitol?
C’mon, Corbett, stop exaggerating. That couldn’t happen.
Tell that to the almost 3,000 people who died when the twin towers fell after two hijacked planes crashed into their spires on September 11.
Getting even unites people on all sides.
Remember when young people danced in the Arab street in the aftermath of 9/11? Now our young people are dancing in the Washington street, chanting their slogans of patriotism and retaliation.
You hit us. We hit you. You hit us again. We hit you again.
Forever and ever, amen.
Sooner or later, an eye for an eye blinds everybody.
Violence always descends into the dark, emptiness of the grave.
So how do we prevent the bloodshed that results in the bloodlust that turns men, women and children against each other in this country as well as in others? How does the United States, a nation of law, diffuse the lawlessness of international terrorism?
Obama orders a hit on Osama and, suddenly Democrats and Republicans are supposedly united. Our country is not united, of course, and right-wingers still despise left-wingers as each blames the other for the demise of democracy.
Still, we’re supposedly on the same side.
On the morning after the hit, Democrat U.S. Sen. Bob Casey speaks of relief. Republican U.S. Rep. Lou Barletta commends Democrat Obama and, sounding like a broken country song, says he’s “proud to be an American.” Like his colleagues on the other side of the aisle, Republican U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey offers a predictably superficial take on the rub-out. And Republican U.S. Rep. Tom Marino says on WILK News Radio this morning that he can’t remember what time he heard the news last night. Ten or 11, he says, before bringing up the Civil War and talking about cutting the head off a snake.
We’re damaged and proud of it.
Does danger in America increase as we celebrate? Does celebration suggest to our enemies that Americans approve of the assassination? Does such approval validate assassination as a legitimate weapon of war?
If so, everybody, including Obama and his family, is at risk. Casey, Barletta, Toomey, Marino and their families are at risk. I’m at risk. So are you.
When assassination becomes foreign policy, we’re all at risk.
Democracy also is at stake.
Like torture, if we can do it to you, you can do it to us.
And you will.
You will.
Yes, you will.

So let me get this right. We should use harsh language to stop a mass murdering terrorist leader, and what he'll stop because we made him feel bad?
And we are just as bad as they are because we celebrated the death of someone, you know the architect of 9/11? Hmmm, 5 evil people dead (who will not hurt anyone EVER again) is equal to 2,752 innocent victims who died in the attacks on the World Trade Center including 343 firefighters and 60 police officers from New York City and the Port Authority.
"Are we safer today than we were yesterday?" YES. The next douche bag leader will think twice about attacking us because they are cowards. Need proof? Why wasn't Bin Laden in one of those planes? Because he was a Narcissistic Coward. He didn't want to die for his beliefs.

"We’re damaged and proud of it." We are damaged because targets (I mean 'people') are trying to destroy our way of life and kill us.
President of the European Parliament, Jerzy Buzek said, "We have woken up in a more secure world."
I've said this before (about Leighton) and it fits here also, "There is not much you can say about someone so obviously divorced from reality and any rational thought."
