10% or less

In Captain U. Cupcakes continuing adventures (To make his campaign contributors richer), we have a new chapter.

86-88 Carlisle Street. Now I'm just a dinged up firefighter/ GAR Graduate but I can do some basic math. So lets take a look.
The city (Didn't Leighton scold 'then mayor' McGroarty that the city shouldn't be in the real estate business?) bought the double block for $8500 and $1,500 to close out federal mortgages, So $10 grand. Since it was appraised for $74,500 I guess that would be a good buy.

Then sells the property to Leo A. Glodzik III for $7500. Wait.... What!?
The city paid $10,000 but then turned around and sold it for $7500!! What kind of 'FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY' is that? How is that good for the city? When I went to school (Back when dinosaurs roamed Pangea) $7500 was LESS than $10,000. Did math change and no one tell me?

When we pick up these properties, the goal is never that this is going to be a money-making thing for the city. The goal is to address blight in specific neighborhoods … ,” City Attorney Timothy J. Henry said.
Shouldn't the citys 'goal' also be to AT LEAST break even Tim?

It needed work. It couldn't have been that bad, it was inhabited when it was appraised. And a friend of mine, who has looking at Captain Cupcakes deals said the house was worth WAY more than $7500.

I wonder if Glodzik got the needed permits to 'gut' the property? I'm sure he did.

How do I get in on these kind of deals??!!! Oh I can't. Leighton hates me and I'm not a $10,400 campaign contributor. Oh well.

China

Here's a new one to add to the list of what China has screwed us over with.
1. Tainted Dog food
2. Lead painted toys
3. Copyright infrigment
And now
4. 59,000 booby trapped computer chips for US Navy War systems

"These were for military use aboard American warships, fighter planes, missile and antimissile systems."

"The chips could have been hacked, able to shut off a missile in the event of war or lie around just waiting to malfunction."

"The problem remains with these “trojan-horse” circuits that can be built into the chip and are almost impossible to detect — especially without the original plans to compare them to."

"Reports the chips weren’t only low-quality fakes, they had been made with a “back-door” and could have been remotely shut down at any time."

Does anyone else think this sounds like someone is getting ready for war?

If you think our 'increasingly interlinked economics' with China would preclude it, well before World War 2 Japans two biggest trading partners were China and the US, Germanys were England and France. Who did they go to war with?

Here is some of the build-up that I've found on-line:
1 An antiship ballistic missile with a projected range of nearly 1,000 miles (IE an Aircraft carrier killer, What navy is the big boy with carriers? Us.)

2 The Chengdu J-20, A stealth fighter on par with our F-22 Raptor whose production was cut from 750 to only 187 planes (The Wall Street Journal reported last year, and U.S. officials recently acknowledged publicly, that the Pentagon's largest weapons program, the Joint Strike Fighter, had been infiltrated.)

3. A program of naval modernization, the PLAN (China's navy) has a plan of developing a blue-water navy. The size and scope of which has not been seen in DECADES (IE the Soviet build up in the early 60's). Including Future Chinese aircraft carriers

Maybe that 'Red Dawn' remake was right.

Even more Meth info

I've been looking for more info on Meth Labs to add to my other posts (here and here).

First off, If you suspect someplace is a Meth Lab, REPORT IT to the PD!!! DO NOT try to confirm it yourself!!! These dirtbags aren't just... well dirtbags, They are EXTREMELY PARANOID DIRTBAGS! On the paranoid scale of 1 to 10, these A$$HATS turn the dial up to 20 and make Spinal Tap look like amatuers.

By the way, Do not touch or smell any of the substances at the site. Meth ingredients are highly toxic and can be absorbed through your skin during even the most casual contact.

In Shepherdsville, Ky., "Investigators also discovered what appeared to be a military-grade rocket propelled grenade" (actually picture below) and "what was believed to be C-4 explosives."

Some of these places put dangling fishhooks in attics or crawlspaces just as a begining!

####
People who abuse Meth regularly are known as 'tweakers'. Tweakers often behave or react violently. Keep in mind, the tweaker may not have slept in three to fifteen days and may be irritable and paranoid. If the tweaker is also using alcohol or other drugs, the danger may be intensified.

The tweaker craves more Meth, but no dosage will help recreate the first rush. This may cause frustration and leads to unpredictable behavior and violence. To support their habits, tweakers often participate in spur-of-the-moment crimes, such as purse snatching or burglaries.

Tweakers are often involved in domestic disputes and automobile accidents. They may also be present at raves or parties. They may at first appear to be normal. A closer look will reveal eye movement ten times faster than normal, a voice with a slight quiver and jerky movements.

If you suspect that someone is tweaking, be careful how you handle the situation. Keep in mind these six safety tips for approaching a tweaker:

1. Keep your distance. Coming too close can be perceived as threatening.
2. No bright lights. The tweaker is paranoid and bright lights may cause them to react violently.
3. Slow your speech, lower your voice.
4. Slow your movements. The tweaker is paranoid and may misunderstand your movements.
5. Keep your hands visible, or they may feel threatened and become violent.
6. Keep the tweaker talking. A tweaker who falls silent can be extremely dangerous. Silence often means that his paranoid thoughts have taken over reality, and anyone present can become part of the tweaker's paranoid delusions.
#####
And
####
White phosphorous, explosive concentrations of organic solvents, makeshift electrical wiring, conspire to produce an environment particularly susceptible to fires and explosions.
####
And
####
Cooking a single pound of Meth will leave five to six pounds of toxic residue.
####
And
####
Police and first responders are generally accustomed to the general fears of drug dealers. But a person who is both using and manufacturing Meth will have increased levels of paranoia, anger and mood swings. Many of them will resort to extreme measures to protect themselves and their labs – security systems, explosives, guns, attack dogs and poisonous snakes have all been found at Meth lab sites.
####
Holy sh!t! POISONOUS SNAKES!!???! How the HELL... What do they.... Forget it. I don't want to know. I hate snakes.

####
Booby-traps. These are NOT passive hazards. These are clever, resourceful ways to hurt, maim or kill people who enter the meth-lab area. Simple examples include bottles of acid falling into cyanide powder, Al or Mg bombs (photo flash and 9v batteries), pipe bombs, venomous snakes, trip wired explosives, etc. In one lab in California, the entire concrete floor was cantilevered in the center, and under the floor was a 700 pound bomb.
#####
Again with the POISONOUS SNAKES!!
Imagine this scenero.
A firefighter enters a structure fire (Hollywood fires are bullsh!t, you can't see squat in a fire, close your eyes and try to find something in your house. Now try that somewhere you've never been before.) As you do your search (BLIND!), you feel a sting in your leg. then again. Your leg feels like it is on fire. You struggle to get out, but in the end your partner needs to drag you out. As you remove your mask, you see it is covered with blood. Your gums are bleeding?!! What the hell is wrong with you.
This is the beginnings of the bite from a Russell's viper. I picked that species randomly. I will spare you from the graphic (and disgusting) pictures.

Information shamelessly stolen from National Institute on Drug Abuse

Two things I'm noticing about recognizing a Meth lab, is Propane tanks (filled with anhydrous ammonia) turns the brass fittings blue. This is going to be something I'm going to be on the watch for.

And

The chemicals are highly corrosive and items that don't normally rust will.

Meth labs

This is NOT like making 'bath tub gin' or moonshine from the Prohibition era. This has more in common with the manufacture of clandestine EXPLOSIVES!! Involving HUGE risks with flammable and corrosive chemicals.

Labs are often discovered by FIRES AND EXPLOSIONS caused by the improper handling of volatile and/or flammable solvents.

The most common method for small-scale methamphetamine labs primarily involves phosphorus (compounds of phosphorus form a wide class of materials, some of which are extremely toxic and some are an explosive/fire danger.), ephedrine (which can cause SEVERE heart problems), and iodine (When mixed with ammonia and water, elemental iodine forms nitrogen triiodide, which is extremely shock-sensitive and can explode unexpectedly) from which hydroiodic acid is formed.

Other chemicals found in Meth labs include:
Acetone: Poisonous, Flammable, toxic, Can be absorbed Through the skin; Causes Reproductive disorders

Methonol: Poisonous, Flammable, toxic, Can be absorbed Through the skin; Causes Blindness/ eye damage

Ammonia: Poisonous, toxic, Corrosive, Can be absorbed Through the skin: Causes blistering, lung damage

Benzene: Poisonous, Flammable, Explosive, Corrosive, Can be absorbed Through the skin: Causes Carcinogen, Leukemia

Ether: Poisonous, Flammable, Explosive: Causes Respiratory Failure

Freon: Poisonous, toxic, Corrosive: Causes Frostbite, Lung damage

Hydriodic Acid: Poisonous, toxic, Explosive, Can be absorbed Through the skin: Causes Burns, Thyroid Damage

Hydrochloric Acid (HCL Gas): Poisonous, toxic, Explosive, Can be absorbed Through the skin: Causes Respiratory, Liver Damage

Oh hell, This list is WAY to long to put here, Just go to KCI the Anti-Meth site

Here are some things to look for in identifying a meth lab:

Unusual, strong odors (like cat urine, ether, ammonia, acetone or other chemicals).

Residences with windows blacked out.

Renters who pay their landlords in cash. (Most drug dealers trade exclusively in cash.)

Lots of traffic - people coming and going at unusual times. There may be little traffic during the day, but at night the activity increases dramatically.

Excessive trash including large amounts of items such as: antifreeze containers, lantern fuel cans, red chemically stained coffee filters, drain cleaner and duct tape.

Unusual amounts of clear glass containers being brought into the home.

Secretive / protective area surrounding the residence (like video cameras, alarm systems, guard dogs, reinforced doors, electrified fencing).

Persons exiting the structure to smoke

Little or no mail, furniture, visible trash and no newspaper delivery.

I'd also like to point out that ALL THREE of the structures (Blackman St, Spruce St, and Regent St.) are in Engine 3's territory (The Engine Leighton has turned 'part-time')! And one of the buildings is DIRECTLY ACROSS THE STREET FROM SPRUCE STREET PARK!!!!

Some quotes from Captain U. Cupcake (Leighton) that are relevant.
"I would never, never gamble with the safety of residents visitors or guests," Oct 5 2004 (WNEP) That is EXACTLY what he is doing.

"With the location of three city fire houses - Hollenback at the city's north end, headquarters near center city and the Parrish and High Street station on the city's southern border - the department can respond promptly to all calls" Oct 27, 2008 (The Times Leader) Not with 2 Engines we can't and this proves he knows it.

"The new station will cover the north end of the city. Headquarters will cover center City and the other station will take care of the south. In turn, the residents of the city and firefighters who protect us will be safer and better equipped" June 8, 2005 (WNEP) And then he cuts our numbers. Right around the time his Intermodel center was going up in cost by 225%. Yeah, he's not sacrificing your safety for his pet projects.

Now to quote myself, "Labs are often discovered by FIRES AND EXPLOSIONS"!!!!

Remember the dictators cut backs when one of these Meth labs (AKA BOMBS WAITING TO HAPPEN) goes up. Remember the Fire Department will still do EVERYTHING possible to save lives and property while working in one of the most hazardous environments known to man. Because it's not just the fire from a meth lab that will kill you. It's also the booby traps, the maze, the chemicals, and God only knows what else.
It's Leighton who is ignoring your safety and ours.

LAG AGAIN

LAG towing is getting away with crap AGAIN.
The towing contract states that the tower MUST clean debris from the roadway of ANY motor vehicle incident (MVI) in the city, even if there is no tow involved.

LAG is refusing to even show up if there isn't a tow. And unless someone watches them like a hawk, they do a terrible job when they do break out the broom.

Also when LAG refuses to clean up, the fire dept is called. Remember, we are down to 2 full time engines and 1 part time one, thanks to Leighton. This takes an Engine out of service for a clean up that LAG is contracted to do. And where are we supposed to put it? We don't have a place on the Engines for debris. And are we supposed to throw it out in the city trash?

I don't expect Captain U. Cupcake (the Dictator Leighton) to do anything about it. He's the one who broke the contract with City Wide Towing (Costing the taxpayers about $225,000+ the hidden cost of the cities defense lawyers) to give it to LAG. And he is a campaign contributor. And the one Leighton tried to sell the Old River Road Bakery to (for 8 cents on the dollar). And the one Leighton lied to the County Commissioners for (To get tax forgiveness, and Gloznik is known for NOT paying his taxes). And Leighton tried to lie about the reason.

Back on topic, because Lag will not pick up the debris they get swept to the gutter by an Engine crew. Ultimately this means it will end up back in the road (where they become a tire hazard) or on a storm drain where they block the drain (becoming a street flooding hazard). Because LAG will not do the job that they are contracted to do, and we all know Captain Cupcake will not force a campaign contributor to do what he signed a contract to do.

Enough Already!!!

Ok, If anyone had ANY doubts about the favoritism that the Times Leader shows our dictator has to read this TL Opinion.

########
RiverFest propels the city forward

WILKES-BARRE Mayor Tom Leighton was all wet … Literally.

He dripped from pate to sole, having emerged from the Susquehanna a bit like the creature from the black lagoon, an amphibian rising from total submersion to walk on land.

The mayor who touts himself as saving Wilkes-Barre from economic inundation had just sunk the city. OK, we’re exaggerating completely. Leighton was one of 21 crew members in a city-sponsored “dragon boat” when - apparently through no fault of anyone on board - the craft turned bottom-up during a series of races held as part of the RiverFest weekend.

The long, slim vessel – sort of a canoe on steroids – had completed one race and was curving back upstream to dock when it abruptly dumped everyone into the drink. One motorboat collected the soggy paddlers (all wore mandatory life jackets); another righted the dragon boat and towed it to dock, filled to the gunwales with river water.

As a TV cameraman pushed a microphone into Leighton’s soggy face, he cheerfully blamed a motorboat carrying a TV cameraman. The news crew had zipped near the city-manned ship for a close up shot, then powered away too fast, creating a high wake that hit the dragon boat broadside. Everyone was in the pool before you could say “re-elect me!”

“It’s always the media’s fault,” Leighton said with tongue in cheek (we hope).

We think the mayor deserves kudos for remaining upbeat after floating downstream without a paddle … or boat. And the city crew didn’t shirk either, readily remounting that dragon for a second and third race – though we note Leighton was absent for the latter two heats; off to more city stuff, we’re sure.

In fact, the city and everyone involved in the constantly growing RiverFest merit accolades for shaking off this lone glitch in an otherwise well-run event. We hope someday (soon), to see RiverFest sprawl along both banks, giving visitors numerous entertainment and educational opportunities.

We take the boat-tipping as metaphor for a city that comes back when everyone declares it sunk.

Besides, the goal of RiverFest is to bring people closer to the Susquehanna. We’d say the city dragon boat crew wins an award in that department.

############

Holy crap! If you kissed a$$ any better you would be able to score a date in Nesbitt Park from 100 yards away.

##

##
BULLCRAP. The people who deserve the credit are the ones who have been there YEAR AFTER YEAR since the beginning. Not some hack who is there because it is an election year.

##
Everyone was in the pool before you could say “re-elect me!”
##
I may become ill. Can you suck up harder? That brown stain may not come off your nose.

##
“It’s always the media’s fault,” Leighton said with tongue in cheek (we hope).
##
Don't bet he didn't mean it, he ALWAYS blames someone else.

##
We think the mayor deserves kudos for remaining upbeat after floating downstream without a paddle
##
Captain U. Cupcake (Leighton) probably capsized the boat to make sure he got his mug on TV

By the way,
##
One motorboat collected the soggy paddlers
##
That boat was manned by Firefighters.
Guess the safety of the citizens daily lives doesn't equal the safety of the dictator for one event.

And where is the thanks to the real people who deserve it? The volunteers who made ALL of this happen? Not here the TL is to busy sucking up to Captain U. Cupcake to give them ANY credit for a job well done.

Goodnight, Cupcake

First from the Times Leader:
#############
Mayor’s remark enrages tow truck operator
BILL O’BOYLE boboyle@timesleader.com

“Goodnight, Cupcake.”

That statement from Mayor Tom Leighton to tow truck operator Bob Kadluboski at Thursday night’s City Council meeting enraged the businessman, leading him to shout at the mayor.

“Don’t you ever call me cupcake again,” Kadluboski screamed at Leighton, who was standing at the rear of council chambers. “I’m sick of your mouth. You’re nothing but a punk.”

Leighton just stood and smiled as Kadluboski was led out of the room by a city police officer and he walked to his vehicle in the parking lot. Leighton explained what happened after the meeting.

“When he (Kadluboski) was walking out, he called me a thief under his breath,” Leighton said. “I said, ‘Goodnight, Cupcake,’ and you heard what happened.”

Later Thursday night, Kadluboski, owner of City Wide Towing & Repair, said he didn’t say anything to Leighton to provoke a response.

“I didn’t even know he was standing there,” Kadluboski said. “Why was he standing back there anyway? Is he trying to make me punch him in the face?”

Janet Straub of Espy Street was about to address council about an issue in her neighborhood when Kadluboski started shouting. Visibly shaken, Straub could hardly speak when order was restored.

“That really scared me,” she said after the meeting. “I wasn’t able to gather my thoughts.”

Leighton said he has been told that “Cupcake” is a nickname some people call Kadluboski.

“Nobody calls me that,” Kadluboski said. “My nickname is ‘Kabby.’ ”

Leighton said Kadluboski’s behavior last night has been typical of his recent visits to council meetings.

“He’s left council meetings several times screaming and slamming doors,” Leighton said. “This isn’t the first time he’s been escorted out.”

Kadluboski has been trying to convince council to allow more time for public comment. He has asked for 5 minutes on each topic he wants to discuss, but council only allows him the 5 minutes allocated to all residents who address council. Kadluboski used up his 5 minutes telling council that he is going to the American Civil Liberties Union to report the council’s policy on public comment. When he was done with discussing his plan, council Chairwoman Kathy Kane informed him his time was up.

“You’re not going to get away with this,” Kadluboski said. “You’re limiting my time to talk about various subjects. You can’t treat the citizens like this.”

When asked why he was standing at the back of the room, Leighton said he went to the men’s room and left his keys in council chambers. He said the door to the clerk’s office locked behind him so he had to return to the meeting via the public entrance.
###############

“When he (Kadluboski) was walking out, he called me a thief under his breath,” Leighton said. “I said, ‘Goodnight, Cupcake,’ and you heard what happened.”
And
Later Thursday night, Kadluboski, owner of City Wide Towing & Repair, said he didn’t say anything to Leighton to provoke a response.

Did ANYONE else hear this? I don't doubt for one second Leighton is not telling the truth about it. Why? Because Kadluboski would have BELLOWED it so load people in Parsons could have heard it.

Leighton said he has been told that “Cupcake” is a nickname some people call Kadluboski.

People, this is an outright LIE. He knows when Kathy Kane called Kadluboski, 'cupcake', Kadluboski went off. And WHEN did Leighton become friendly enough with Kadluboski to use a nick name? NEVER!!! This is nothing more than Emperor Leighton showing, once again, his bullying.

“He’s left council meetings several times screaming and slamming doors,” Leighton said. “This isn’t the first time he’s been escorted out.”
This is NOT a reason for Dictator Leighton to be impolite, IN PUBLIC, to a taxpaying citizen. PERIOD.

Now the Citizens Voice
#############
'Cupcake' war erupts at W-B council meeting
By Andrew Staub (Staff Writer)Published: June 17, 2011

WILKES-BARRE - Bob Kadluboski made one thing incredibly clear during Thursday night's city council meeting - don't ever call him "cupcake."

Ever.

The controversial tow-truck driver exploded with a room-shaking and startling tirade after Mayor Tom Leighton referred to Kadluboski as "cupcake" for the second time this year. A city police officer stood between the two as Kadluboski unloaded on perhaps his No. 1 political nemesis.

"Hey, don't call me cupcake! Don't call me cupcake, I'm sick of your mouth!" Kadluboski screamed as a police officer funneled the confrontation into the hallway. "But let me tell you something, you thief, I'm going to see you in jail!"

As Kadluboski walked backward slowly down the stairs, he continued to scream at Leighton, calling him a "punk." Despite Council Chairwoman Kathy Kane's order to close the door to council chambers, Kadluboski's rant rattled the room from the outside.

The incident shook a city resident who had been speaking to council, and she had to take a few moments to regain her composure before speaking in a quivering voice.

Leighton wasn't fazed.

"It's no different than what he does every time," Leighton said, referring to the handful of times Kadluboski has earned a police escort from council meetings because of disruptive behavior.

The mayor said he told Kadluboski "Goodnight cupcake" as the owner of City-Wide Towing left council chambers.

"He said something under his breath, called me a thief on his way out," Leighton said, explaining his words as a response to the former owner of the city's exclusive towing contract.

Leighton said he referred to Kadluboski as "cupcake" because "people (Kadlubuski) hangs around with" told him that's what his nickname was.

Kadluboski's nickname, the tow-truck driver said, is "Cobby." Friends who bowled with Kadluboski's father, Al, couldn't pronounce the man's last name, so they shortened it to "Cobby," then passed the nickname on to the younger Kadluboski.

Kadluboski contends Leighton was trying to entice him to punch the mayor so the police officer would arrest Kadluboski. The mayor repeatedly called Kadluboski "cupcake," then silently mouthed the name to Kadluboski when the officer intervened, Kadluboski said.

"There's something wrong with his brain to keep tormenting somebody," Kadluboski said afterward. "Something happens to him and he gets sued again, then he's going to be crying again."

The outburst derailed a meeting that included several city initiatives, among them the purchase of four new police cruisers and the investment of almost $1.4 million in state grants to stabilize the long-vacant First National Bank Building on Public Square.

It's the second time Leighton has called Kadluboski "cupcake" and the third time a city official has referred to him by the name at a public meeting. The first incident came during a March 24 meeting after Kadluboski called Leighton a "freaking thief."

"Calm down, cupcake," Leighton replied as Kadluboski walked away.

Council Chairwoman Kathy Kane said "See ya, cupcake" when she ended Kadluboski's speaking time during a May 12 meeting. Kane declined to comment about Thursday's outburst.

There was never any physical contact between the mayor and Kadluboski, and charges would not be considered, Leighton said. For his part, Kadluboski hinted at an upcoming legal battle against Leighton.

"Tom Leighton is pushing me, and pushing me and pushing me and he's not going to like the end result when it comes to a head," Kadluboski said. "Because I'm going to do it nice, and I'm going to do it legally."
###############

Mayor Tom Leighton referred to Kadluboski as "cupcake" for the second time this year.
And
It's the second time Leighton has called Kadluboski "cupcake"
This is the first time I've heard of Leighton calling Kadluboski 'cupcake', But I'm not surprised. Leighton is UNPROFESSIONAL and needs to make A FULL AND PUBLIC APOLOGY.

"It's no different than what he does every time," Leighton said, referring to the handful of times Kadluboski has earned a police escort from council meetings because of disruptive behavior.
Yes it is, Leighton provoked an incident with a taxpaying citizen. Just because Leighton did not LIKE what that TAXPAYING CITIZEN had to say.

Leighton said he referred to Kadluboski as "cupcake" because "people (Kadlubuski) hangs around with" told him that's what his nickname was.
Are we to believe Leighton and Kadluboski 'hang out' with the same people? But never cross paths outside of council meetings? Right, We're not that stupid, but then Leighton thinks we are.

The mayor repeatedly called Kadluboski "cupcake," then silently mouthed the name to Kadluboski when the officer intervened, Kadluboski said.
Leighton is a bully, even Yudichak publicly called him one. This time the press caught most of it.

This should NOT be about Kadluboski, It IS about our dictator showing his contempt for a citizen. If anyone else (except Kathy Kane) had said this, they would be FIRED. Or at least censured. And they would deserve it. The dictators court (AKA city council) and the dictator have gotten away with so much that now they are treating the people, that they are there to SERVE, with contempt. Kadluboski is NOT the mayor, Leighton is. And he should NOT be allowed to pull grade school antics, especially at OFFICIAL funtions.

No matter what, an elected official should ALWAYS be professional. This just shows what kind of person Leighton really is.... a unprofessional, immature, shameful, arrogant, small minded BULLY.

How can we fix local Gov'ts when Obama does this?

This is a BIG article, So I'll just quote some of it:
Top Barack Obama donors net government jobs

###########
Telecom executive Donald H. Gips raised a big bundle of cash to help finance his friend Barack Obama’s run for the presidency.

Gips, a vice president of Colorado-based Level 3 Communications, delivered more than $500,000 in contributions for the Obama war chest, while two other company executives collected at least $150,000 more.

After the election, Gips was put in charge of hiring in the Obama White House, helping to place loyalists and fundraisers in many key positions. Then, in mid-2009, Obama named him ambassador to South Africa. Meanwhile, Level 3 Communications, in which Gips retained stock, received millions of dollars of government stimulus contracts for broadband projects in six states — though Gips said he had been “completely unaware” that the company had received the contracts.

More than two years after Obama took office vowing to banish “special interests” from his administration, nearly 200 of his biggest donors have landed plum government jobs and advisory posts, won federal contracts worth millions of dollars for their business interests or attended numerous elite White House meetings and social events, an investigation by iWatch News has found.
##########

But wait, The White house response:
Carney On Donors Getting Gov't Jobs: "Our Methods Of Transparency Are Unprecedented"
#######
White House press secretary Jay Carney responds to a report that "loyalists" and top campaign bundlers for President Obama in 2008 were given government jobs.

"People were appointed on the merits," Carney said after several questions about the report.

Carney conceded that donating to Obama's campaign doesn't disqualify you from a job. He then went on to praise the administration's track record of honesty and transparency.

"Our ethical standards are unmatched by any previous administration. Our efforts at transparency are unprecedented. And that's not just me saying it, it is outside groups who have said that," Carney said.
#######

Remember, the Obama administration's "honesty and transparency" and his compassion and his fiscal responsibility and his respect for our injured soldiers and the press ..... What was that campaign slogan? Hope and Change?

Notice who is stepping on the Constitution in the picture?

Woman captures video of thief moments before he rapes her

California woman captures video of thief moments before he rapes her.
(Video of the theft is in the link)

######
A California woman used her cell phone to record video of a crook robbing her house moments before he sexually assaulted her, authorities said Wednesday.

Now police hope the 13-second clip will help them catch the fiend.

The unidentified 28-year-old was home alone Tuesday morning when she heard "loud noises," Oakland Police Officer Holly Joshi told KGO 7 News in San Francisco.

"There was a strange man, brazenly in her home, gathering her electronics in a box," she said.

The woman quickly used her phone to record video of the man, who can be seen carrying a box and frantically looking for a way out.

"I'm sorry, can you leave," she is heard saying.

"Yeah," he mumbles in response.

"How did you get in here?" she asks.

The man, described as a 5-foot, 9-inch tall black man in his early 40s and weighing about 160 pounds, goes down a hallway to an open door, looks outside, then exits.

The video ends, but police said the man returned moments later and raped the woman.

"She was very much behind the release of the video," Joshi said. "She wants justice."

A reward of up to $5,000 is being offered for information leading to his arrest. Anyone with information may call police at (510) 637-0298 or Crime Stoppers at (510) 777-8572 and (510) 777-3211.

######

Excuse me, but you have enough time to take out your cellphone and take a video but didn't have enough time to dial 911?!!! And this isn't seen as a little odd?

The very LAST thing I would think of if I found someone in my home would be be grab the phone to take a VIDEO!!!!
Steps I would take:
1. Grab work radio (Not applicable to most people)
2. Grab cell, call 911
3. Grab Paraordinace P-14 .45 ACP w/ spare Mag.

The average response time for an EMERGENCY 911 call in Wilkes-Barre is 4 to 6 minutes. The average response time for a .45 ACP is around .019 seconds (21 feet at 1100 feet per second).

Gaming Funds

I noticed this in the Times Leader today.

'Council will also vote on accepting $1.4 million in gaming funds that will be used to stabilize the former First National Bank Building at 59-63 Public Square. The money will come in two payments – the first $680,000 and the second $706,044.'
More of Emperor Leightons pet projects. This money would be better spent on putting lane lines on our streets, Instead of a building that he will probably sell to a campaign contributor for 8 cents on the dollar. 'Fiscally responsible' my A$$.

'Leighton said work on the building will include abatement/encapsulation, masonry restoration, roof repairs and window/skylight replacement in Phase I of the project, and in Phase II, plaster restoration, plumbing, fire protection, HVAC and electrical work.'. Yeah, put $1.4 MILLION into a project with NO CLEAR BUYER but not into the cities infrastructure. How about using that money to put restrooms on the river common?

'Whatever goes in there, it will take another three to four million dollars to renovate it.' Well there you go, ANOTHER 3 TO 4 MILLION DOLLARS that could actually go into making the city safer.

Casino money was also used for the Condos above the theater. How much money did that generate for the city?

Remember this money pit (just like the Sterling Hotel) when Leighton goes to sell South Fire Station.

Obama is at it AGAIN

My friend ZIPBAGS is catching things that the Main Stream Media (MSM) is giving almost NO attention to.
###########
Is this guy out of his f-in mind?!? We are having our own budgetary problems. And he is offering money to a country who riots at the retirement age being raised from 60 to 62?

Quote, "President Barack Obama on Tuesday urged European countries and bondholders to prevent a "disastrous" default by Greece and pledged U.S. support to help tackle the country's debt crisis."
link...

Oh and on a similar note. This is just unreal.

Quote, "U.S. Will Pay $2.6 Million to Train Chinese Prostitutes to Drink Responsibly on the Job."
link...
from ZIPBAGS
#############

First about Greece
"A proposal for a second Greek bailout package worth 80 billion to 100 billion euros over three years was taking shape, euro zone sources said."
The exchange rate is roughly $1.46 to 1 Euro. So Obama just pledged 116.8 Billion to 146 Billion dollars (over three years) THAT WE DO NOT HAVE!!!! Aren't we facing another government shutdown??! Plus THREE WARS THAT ARE NOT ENDING and an invasion (in everything but name) of illegal immigrants!! But we can't let Greece handle its own problems.

And the Chinese hookers
Ummm ...., "The research will take place in the southern Chinese province of Guangxi.".
When the @%$#* did we (U.S. citizens) become responsible for the health of Chinese hookers?!!!
For that matter, when did hookers and pimps become 'female sex workers' and 'gatekeepers'?!!!
I really wonder if our federal administration is trying to destroy our country!

And here is one that I've been watching closely.
Is the U.N. Trying to Strip Americans’ Second Amendment Rights? and if 'The Blaze' Mainstream enough for you, What about Forbes?
U.N. Agreement Should Have All Gun Owners Up In Arms

"Under the guise of a proposed global “Small Arms Treaty”… you can be quite certain that an even more insidious threat is being targeted – our Constitutional right for law-abiding citizens to own and bear arms."

"Bell claims that this international treaty, from the Obama administration’s perspective, is an opportunity to increase domestic gun control. If implemented, he believes it will enforce rougher licensing requirements, more red tape, create an “international gun registry,“ ”confiscate and destroy all ‘unauthorized’ civilian firearms’” and severely impede Americans’ right to bear arms."

Do our 'Leaders' ever bother to read the Bill of Rights?
This is Obama trying to get HIS policy done by using a back door around the Senate and Congress. He has got to GO.

Oh, And as a Navy Vet I object when people say, "Obama Is spending money like a Drunken Sailor". That is not true. We stopped spending money when we ran out of it.

Remember, Obama tried to courtmartial SEALs for a bloody nose!

#####
Let's be clear on this: OBAMA did NOT kill Bin Laden. An American sailor, who Obama, just a few weeks ago, was debating on whether or not to PAY, did.

In fact, if you remember a little less than two years ago, his administration actually charged and attempted to court-martial 3 Navy Seals from Seal Team Six, when a terrorist suspect they captured, complained they had punched him during the take down and bloodied his nose. His administration further commented how brutal they were. The left were calling them Nazi's and Baby Killers.

Now all of a sudden, the very brave men they vilified are now heroes when they make his administration look good in the eyes of the public. Obama just happened to be the one in office when the CIA finally found the bastard. And our Navy Seals took him (bin Laden) out.

Essentially, Obama only gave an answer. Yes or No, to him being taken out.

This is NOT an Obama victory, but an AMERICAN victory!!"

Ed Schriber
Col. USMC (Ret.)
"Semper Fi"

OBAMA'S OWN WORDS TRAP HIM: He Said:

2008: "Navy Seal Team 6 is Cheney's private assassination team."
2011: "I put together Seal Team 6 to take out Bin Laden."

2008: "Bin Laden is innocent until proven guilty, and must be captured alive and given a fair trial."
2011: "I authorized Seal Team 6 to kill Bin Laden."

2008: " Guantanamo is entirely unnecessary, and the detainees should not be interrogated."
2011: "Vital intelligence was obtained from Guantanamo detainees that led to our locating Bin Laden."
############

Thank you ZIPBAGS for sending this.

Seems, much like our dictator, Obama will flip his position to whatever suits his purpose. (IE the city is bankrupt and in a differant breath, "I have brought prosperity to the city" from his own failed senate campaign)

A Third Hypothetical Story

I would like to tell you a third hypothetical story to go with the first and the second.
This time there are 17 men on duty. The FIVE that Leighton slashed from our shifts since becoming dictator.

You are asleep in your South Wilkes-Barre home.

Around 1 AM you are awakened to the smoke detectors shrill tone. You wake up your spouse and open your bedroom door... and are greeted to a wall of thick black smoke and intense heat.

You can't get to your children. You must get out while you can. You and your spouse barely get out through the bedroom window.

You can't get back into the house, the fire is blocking you. You must do SOMETHING to save your children.

Your spouse has already limped to the home next door to call 911.
Seconds pass like days, minutes seem like months.

It seems like forever until Engine Three is on scene. The captain and a hoseman get out and start pulling lines while the driver puts the engine into pump and then charges the lines. You tell the Captain that 2 children are in the home. Less than 2 minutes have gone by since the Engine got on scene.

The Captain and hoseman begin the attack. The driver is balancing time between the pump controls and helping feed the hose line to assist the attack team. Engine One is already at the hydrant and are hooking up a huge yellow hose to it. Engine four (a hypothetical engine that I am saying is stationed at headquarters, but takes care of the Heights) heads for the rear of your home.
One minute has gone by since the hoses have been charged, about 3 minutes since they arrived on scene and the engine is below 3/4s of a tank of water.

The attack team is having a hard time with the heavy fire load, but you have hope. Engine One drives to Engine Three and are attaching the other end of that huge yellow hose to Engine Three, Also The ladder truck, Truck 6, is there and 2 more men are now helping the attack crew.
Engine four is mounting an attack from the rear of your home and it drastically slows the fire because the two fronts gives the flames nowhere to expand.
Two minutes have gone by since the hoses have been charged, about 4 minutes since they arrived on scene and the engine is below 1/2 of a tank of water.

The Ambulance crew is taking your spouse to the ambulance, you refuse to go. The chief (When did he get there? You can't remember) is asking you questions, but your attention is on what was your home.

Three minutes have gone by since the hoses have been charged, about 5 minutes since they arrived on scene and Engine 3 is now below 1/4 of a tank of water, but now the hydrant is open and the water level on Engine Three is going up.
Engine four is at 3/4s of a tank.
The attack team now has the upper hand on the fire and the crew from Engine one is actively searching for your children.

Engine 2 is now on scene, They had to come from all the way across town. They are now hooking up to a different hydrant and heading for Engine 4. 3 minutes later and they have Hooked Engine four to a hydrant. Now they are putting an attack team into your house.

Will it be soon enough? When unhindered, fire will double in size every minute. In this scenario, the children have the BEST chance of survival. All because our manpower was not IRRESPONSIBLY slashed, giving the city a third and a fourth fire engine.
For those who would say, "The city can't afford it" I have only one question, What is the value of your child's life? AND SINCE WE ARE PAYING MAXED OUT TAXES, SHOULDN'T WE HAVE TOP NOTCH SERVICES?

Don't let Leighton play games with your lives.

D-Day

Being that today is the anniversary of D-Day, We should take a moment to remember the brave men who were THERE 67 years ago. We will not have these living examples of selfless heroism forever. And as time goes on D-Day seems to become a 15 second blurb on the news. Forgetting these men, and the example they are, CANNOT be allowed the happen.

They assaulted a beach. Open, unforgiving terrain with little or no cover. German soldiers sat entrenched in hardened concrete bunkers raining machine gun and artillery rounds down on them. Most of the first waves perished within seconds, the men who were the first to hit the beaches had to know they were marching to their death.

YET THEY STILL WENT. 10,000+ Casualties. YET THEY STILL WENT. To Protect FREEDOM.

Of D-Day, Cartoonist Charles Schulz said, “I think there are certain things that must never be forgotten.... It’s one of those days we must not forget.”

"Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen of the Allied Expeditionary Force!
You are about to embark upon the Great Crusade, toward which we have striven these many months.
The eyes of the world are upon you.
The hopes and prayers of liberty-loving people everywhere march with you. In company with our brave Allies and brothers-in-arms on other Fronts, you will bring about the destruction of the German war machine, the elimination of Nazi tyranny over the oppressed peoples of Europe, and security for ourselves in a free world.
Your task will not be an easy one. Your enemy is well trained, well equipped and battle hardened. He will fight savagely. But this is the year 1944! Much has happened since the Nazi triumphs of 1940-41. The United Nations have inflicted upon the Germans great defeats, in open battle, man-to-man.
Our air offensive has seriously reduced their strength in the air and their capacity to wage war on the ground. Our Home Fronts have given us an overwhelming superiority in weapons and munitions of war, and placed at our disposal great reserves of trained fighting men.
The tide has turned! The free men of the world are marching together to Victory! I have full confidence in your courage and devotion to duty and skill in battle.
We will accept nothing less than full Victory! Good luck! And let us beseech the blessing of Almighty God upon this great and noble undertaking." ~ General Dwight D. Eisenhower's message to troops before the Normandy landings.

Rest well Sirs. Know that some will NEVER forget.
One of the reasons they are 'The Greatest Generation'.

Robert F. Kennedy

U.S. presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy (also known as RFK) was shot by Sirhan Sirhan 43 years ago. He Died the next day.
The younger brother to President John F. Kennedy, he was a known as a civil rights activist and served as the Attorney General from 1961 to 1964.
In 1968, Kennedy began to campaign for the presidency and was the front-running candidate of the Democratic Party.

President John F. Kennedy once remarked about his brother that, "If I want something done and done immediately I rely on the Attorney General. He is very much the doer in this administration, and has an organizational gift I have rarely if ever seen surpassed."

Kennedy scored a major victory in winning the California primary. He addressed his supporters shortly after midnight on June 5, 1968, in a ballroom at The Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles, California. Leaving the ballroom, he went through the hotel kitchen after being told it was a shortcut, despite being advised to avoid the kitchen by his bodyguard, FBI agent Bill Barry. In a crowded kitchen passageway, 24-year-old Sirhan Sirhan opened fire with a .22-caliber revolver. Kennedy was hit three times and five other people also were wounded. George Plimpton and former decathlete Rafer Johnson are credited with wrestling Sirhan Sirhan to the ground after Sirhan shot the Senator. Following the shooting, Kennedy was first rushed to Los Angeles's Central Receiving Hospital and then to the city's Good Samaritan Hospital where he died early the next morning. Sirhan said that he felt betrayed by Kennedy's support for Israel in the June 1967 Six-Day War, which had begun exactly one year before the assassination.

His brother, U.S. Senator Edward "Ted" Kennedy, eulogized him with the words,
"My brother need not be idealized, or enlarged in death beyond what he was in life; to be remembered simply as a good and decent man, who saw wrong and tried to right it, saw suffering and tried to heal it, saw war and tried to stop it. Those of us who loved him and who take him to his rest today, pray that what he was to us and what he wished for others will some day come to pass for all the world. As he said many times, in many parts of this nation, to those he touched and who sought to touch him: 'Some men see things as they are and say why. I dream things that never were and say why not.'"

Kennedy was buried near his brother, John, in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia. He had always maintained that he wished to be buried in Massachusetts, but his family believed that since the brothers had been so close in life, they should be near each other in death. In accordance with his wishes, Kennedy was buried with the bare-minimum military escort and ceremony. The casket was borne from the train by 13 pallbearers, including former astronaut John Glenn, former Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara, family friend Gen. Maxwell Taylor, Robert's eldest son Joe and his brother Senator Edward Kennedy.
In August 2009, Senator Edward Kennedy was also buried at Arlington, near his brothers John and Robert.

"Only those who dare to fail greatly can ever achieve greatly." ~ Robert F. Kennedy

A Second Hypothetical Story

I would like to tell you a second hypothetical story.
This time there are 14 men on duty. The two that Dictator Leighton slashed from our shifts last March.

It seems like for ever until Engine Three is on scene. The captain and a hoseman get out and start pulling lines while the driver puts the engine into pump and then charges the lines. You tell the Captain that 2 children are in the home. Less than 2 minutes have gone by since the Engine got on scene.

Three minutes have gone by since the hoses have been charged, about 5 minutes since they arrived on scene and the engine is now below 1/4 of a tank of water, but now the hydrant is open and the water level on Engine Three is going up.

The attack team is now gaining the upper hand on the fire and the crew from Engine one is actively searching for your children.

Engine 2 is now on scene, They had to come from all the way across town. They are now hooking up to a different hydrant and heading for the rear of what is left of your house. 3 minutes later and they are putting an attack team into your house.

Will it be soon enough? When unhindered, fire will double in size every minute. In this scenario, the childrens chances have been improved dramatically. All because 2 more men were on shift, giving the city a third fire engine. This is a perfect example of the old tale, "For want of a nail, The kingdom was lost".

The Battle of Midway

The Battle of Midway is widely regarded as the most important naval battle of the Pacific Campaign of World War II. Between June 4 and 7, 1942, approximately six months after Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor, the United States Navy decisively defeated an Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) attack against Midway Atoll, inflicting irreparable damage on the Japanese fleet.

The Japanese plan was to lure the United States' aircraft carriers into a trap. The Japanese also intended to occupy Midway Atoll as part of an overall plan to extend their defensive perimeter in response to the Doolittle Raid.

The plan was handicapped by American codebreakers who were able to determine the date and location of the attack, enabling the forewarned U.S. Navy to set up an ambush of its own.

Until this battle Japan had been highly successful in swiftly securing its initial war goals, giving the Japanese a feeling of invincibility that has been called "Victory Disease". Of the six Japanese carriers involved in the Pearl Harbor attack, Shōkaku was heavily damaged and Zuikaku was awaiting a replacement air group due to losses from the Battle of Coral Sea (This is where the 'Victory Disease' comes into play, Why not transfer Shōkaku's air group to Zuikaku and have a fifth carrier available? The answer 'Victory Disease' or arrogance).

The Japanese force had four carriers (Hiryū, Sōryū, Kaga, and Akagi), while the American force had 3 carriers (Enterprise, Hornet, and Yorktown) plus Midway islands airfield.

At the end of the battle, Japan had lost 4 aircraft carriers, 1 heavy cruiser sunk (and 1 heavily damaged), 3,057 Japanese sailors and 248 carrier aircraft destroyed.
The US navy lost 1 Aircraft Carrier (USS Yorktown), 1 Destroyer, 307 servicemen and 150 aircraft destroyed.

This was a battle that the Japanese military never recovered from.
They had awakened the 'Sleeping Giant'.

James Arness

Yesterday actor James Arness passed away. Most will remember him for playing Marshal Matt Dillon on Gunsmoke for 20 years. His younger brother was actor Peter Graves, who passed away on March 14, 2010.

Mr. Arness was a decorated World War 2 Veteran. His award included the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with three bronze battle stars, the World War II Victory Medal and the Combat Infantryman Badge. He served as a rifleman with the U.S. 3rd Infantry Division, and was severely wounded during Operation Shingle, at Anzio, Italy.

John Wayne recommended Arness for the part of Matt Dillon in the longtime favorite television show Gunsmoke. Wayne introduced Arness in a prologue to the first episode of Gunsmoke. Gunsmoke would run for two decades, the longest running drama series in U.S. television history (tied with Law & Order). It made Arness world-famous.

He was also the monster in 1951's 'The Thing'.

Known for his good humor and easy laugh, Shooting on the Gunsmoke set was often suspended because the 6 feet 7 inch Arness got a case of the uncontrollable giggles.

James Arness avoided publicity and banned reporters from the Gunsmoke set. He was said to be a shy and sensitive man who enjoyed horseback riding, sailboat racing, and surfing.

On the 50th anniversary of television in 1989 in the United States, People Magazine chose the top 25 television stars of all time. Arness was number 6.

Rest well sir, I wish more of todays 'stars' were like you.

A hypothetical story

Andy Palumbo blogged about the Sullivan St Fire.

One point about that fire. It being on a holiday weekend, it was difficult to get off-duty guys to go to the fire. Why? Would you want to risk your life after having a few? Remember, They were off duty. This is a very good reason why 12 men per shift are not enough. That the second building was saved was due to nothing short of the almost superhuman efforts of the on-duty firefighters.
For the cost of two men per shift, Leighton is willing to risk our lives, your lives and your homes. As he complains about overtime he does not mention the 20 plus men we are short. As he pats himself on the back for getting a 'splash park' he ignores the safety of citizens.

I would like to tell you a hypothetical story.

It seems like forever until Engine one is on scene.

One minute has gone by since the hoses have been charged, about 3 since they arrived on scene and the engine is below 3/4s of a tank of water.

The Ambulance crew is taking your spouse to the ambulance, you refuse to go. The chief (when did he get there? You can't remember) is asking you questions, but your attention is on what was your home.

Three minutes have gone by since the hoses have been charged, about 5 minutes since they arrived on scene and the engine is now below 1/4 of a tank of water.

The attack team is now getting out. WHY???!!!
They have less than one minute of water left, and without it they can not do their job.
Why don't they hook to a hydrant! There it is! It's at the corner!! That is the job of the second due engine. Still minutes from arriving because Engine 3 is out of service.

Engine 2 is now on scene, They had to come from all the way across town. They are now hooking up to the hydrant. 2 minutes later and they are getting water.
Will it be soon enough? Leighton says yes. I say if you play Russian Roulette enough and someone will die. This is a stupid game to play (especially since we are paying for top coverage) and when you play stupid games you win stupid prizes.

Don't let Leighton play games with your lives.
